STORM NOTE: Here's what we know so far...

STORM NOTE: Here's what we know so far. We've been in contact with members who are in areas that are being evacuated. Everyone seems to have somewhere safe to go, often to family members or friends in other parts of the state. Some of our members are hosting other members or friends. Southern Regional and other schools are well equipped shelters and are doing a good job with people who need oxygen and who have pets. It seems like the state, county and town are on top of this, and that Saturday will be a very quiet day of waiting. As far as Sunday, it doesn't look good at this point as the storm is scheduled to be directly over the church at 8am Sunday. We'll post more information as that becomes more clear. The church office is closed until then, so please use email to contact us or call me at 609-709-3265. At this point I have no list other than the designated shelters to recommend. Thank God for the early warning systems we have today, and for the many people who are stepping up to support others in this time of stress. Everyone be safe, and pray for those who are having difficulty finding the support they need, or who are overwhelmed with anxiety. Psalm 46 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. May we find it to be so!

Vacation Bible School Update

SONQUEST RAINFOREST Vacation Bible School is almost here!!! As we transform into a tropical rainforest, we are in need of help with a few items for our various stations. Please stop by fellowship hall and see the board across from the church office. If there is an item on the board that you can supply, please take that sticky and bring the item in either Sunday or Monday. Items needing to be returned, please make sure your name is on it and we will do our best to return it to you. With 4 days to go until VBS, we already have 58 kids pre-registered to attend. We are so excited and are looking forward to another terrific VBS week!

notes for sunday, june 5

This is a communion Sunday for us at both services. This is one of our "positive passage" series messages, drawn from Philippians 4:4-9. Written from prison, these words show how one of Jesus' people approached his challenge with faith. We'll also watch a video about a family facing challenges with courage and optimism.

Here's my paraphrase of the passage: When you're in difficult times...

Activate your spiritual resources by celebrating God’s gift to you in Jesus

Do this as a regular practice

Even when things are going bad

Celebrate with others and by yourself

Use songs and scripture and testimony

Express how much Jesus means in your life

Be bighearted towards everyone whether they are in the church or not

Whether they are treating you well or not

Lenient, gracious, not demanding your rights or insisting on the letter of the law

Kind, generous, patient

Remember that God is with you, near you

To be a help

And it won’t be long before you are with him in glory

So don’t get so focused on how you are being treated now

It will only take your mind off track and lead you to a selfish spiral of absorption

Prayer will be important

It clarifies what is going on in your life when you have to express it to God

It reminds you that God is interested

Be specific in what you ask about

And always mix in gratitude for what God has provided and will provide

You have to take charge of your mind

If you let it wander it won’t help you stay on track

Think about things that are worth thinking about

When you do this, and imitate the best you’ve known and seen

The peace of God will inhabit your life
