OCC Youth Beach Party

We will be going to the Ostbergs' home in LBI to have some fun, hang out, play games and of course.....GO TO THE BEACH!!

30th Anniversary Dinner/Fundraiser - June 8th at 6pm

Join us Friday, June 8th from 6-10pm at the Holiday Inn, Manahawkin as we celebrate 30 years; our theme is “Honoring the Past while Joyfully Anticipating the Future”. The dinner is also a fundraiser as all auction and ad book proceeds are designated for our Youth Ministry; Ad book Sponsor levels: $100 Gold - $50 Silver - $25 Bronze - $10 Sponsor Listing. Ticket Prices include 5-course buffet dinner: Youth 16 - Adult $35 per person; Youth 11-15 $16 per person; Children 10 & under $10 per person (children’s menu includes chicken fingers with french fries).

Relay for Life Yard Sale - Saturday, May 5 8am - 12 noon

Come out Saturday, May 5th from 8am to 12noon for an Indoor/Multi-Family Yard Sale in Fellowship Hall to raise funds for the upcoming Relay for Life Walk at Southern Regional High School. All monies raised will go to Relay for Life.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT OCC THESE DAYS?
Here are some notes about what is going on.

DEREK HOLDING MEETINGS: Derek Chan is our summer director of student ministries, and has begun regular weekly meetings for Junior and Sr high. The is also a monthly meeting for grades 4-6 to help them prepare to become the next Jr High group! Junior High students are preparing to attend a weeklong retreat at the end of June at Harvey Cedars. Planning is underway for a variety of summer meetings. Pastor Bob is working to prepare a support team for Derek, so be sure to speak with him if you are interested. This past week was a difficult one for our youth, with the tragic loss of a friend from school. Prayers are encouraged for the families involved.

MISSIONAL THEOLOGY FOCUS: We are continuing to explore how a missional theology approach can help us revitalize our church life through attention to the world outside our doors. The quote from Leslie Newbigin, once a missionary to India, continues on our bulletin and reminds us that we exist to bring the kingdom of God near to those who are not yet part of the church. Our deacons local ministry, food pantry and clothing ministry, caregivers, involvement with InterFaith Hospitality Services, Family Promise, Church World Service, and the newly formed Southern Ocean County Community Resource Center (seeking to provide transitional services for homeless who are not otherwise served) are all ways that we can put our faith into practice.

STEPHEN MINISTRY: Deacon Glenn Ferguson has returned from a week in St. Louis where he spent 50 hours learning how to help us become a congregation where people are equipped to walk alongside others facing unemployment, illness, divorce, tragedy and really any disruptive life experiences. Glenn will be at coffee hour on May 6 with a display table to show materials and answer questions. A summer Bible study on Christian Caregiving is being planned, and training for Stephen Ministers is being anticipated starting in October. Begin to pray now with us for God's calling in the lives of many among us.

$5000 MATCHING CHALLENGE GIFT: As of last week, we had given special gifts of $3,861 towards meeting the $5,000 matching challenge gift donated by an anonymous member. These funds will help bring our general fund up to level as we move towards the summer. Thanks to all who are able to participate!

CHILDREN AND YOUTH SUNDAY is coming up on June 10. We will use our early service as a time for children and youth to minister in various ways, and Derek will be leading our older youth involvement this year.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be July 9-13 this year, from 6-8:30pm each night. SKY is our theme! Talk with Wendy Cutts if you are interested in helping out.

NOT TO MENTION our Thursday morning Bible studies, Wednesday morning men's breakfast, Thursday Scrapbooking, Consistory meetings, Elders and Deacons meetings, Praise Band rehearsals, and all the other groups that meet in our building through the week (AA, GA, OA, boy scouts, girl scouts, community WISE program...)

OOPS...ALMOST FORGOT...Worship each week with Discovery Service at 9am and Traditional Service at 11am, where we have been seeing visitors for a number of weeks.

PRAY FOR GOD'S WISDOM AND BLESSING AS WE SEEK TO BE FAITHFUL IN THIS TIME AND THIS PLACE!

2012 Youth Weeks:

Each year all 5 weeks focus on a specific theme, drawn from Scripture, that is chosen because of it’s relevance to youth culture and opportunity for spiritual growth. Speakers and worship teams are also selected carefully to match the audience and overall goals of the week. We have seen Christ work in amazing ways in the lives of students at Harvey Cedars, and we look forward to seeing what He will do in years to come.

These weeks (designed for your whole youth group, not individuals) provide teenagers with the perfect opportunity to get away and experience Christ in a new, fresh way. We work with a team of experienced youth pastors to create cutting-edge programs that teach, challenge, encourage, and prepare students to live a life that is honoring to God.

Youth Group needs Your Help...

Interested in helping out with Youth Group this summer? The Youth Ministry Oversight Team is beginning a process to screen helpers to commit for activities such as transportation, chaperone and mentor our youth! Please email studentministries@oceanchurch.net and attend a brief meeting this Sunday, April 22, 2012 in room 101 at 10:30am.

Here's whats happening for Youth at OCC...

Wednesday, April 11th at 8:30am, youth in grades 7-12 are invtited to meet at OCC to carpool over to Harvey Cedars Bible Conference for a Work Day event. Lunch will be provided, bring work gloves if you have them. Youth will be returning around 4pm depending on the weather.

Thursday, April 12th from 3-6pm grades 4-6 are invited to come hang out with Derek, playing games and having snacks. Youth grades 7 & 8 are invited to join Derek from 7-9pm for study, planning and games.

Saturday, April 14th - Youth in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in Atlantic City Homeless Outreach Mission. This is our first time going down to Atlantic City to practice what we preach and believe. We will meet at OCC at 11am and go down together where we will be partnering with Stockton Christian Fellowship at Brown's Park in Atlantic City after preparing the food and clothing. It is exciting to be able to go as a group and be a blessing to the folks down there.

EASTER SERVICES

We will have Sunrise service at 6th Street Beach, Ship Bottom at 6:15am. Both regular services will be held at 9am and 11am. The nursery will be available to children up to age 7 at both regular services. There will be no coffee hour this week and no children's ministry breakout.

Pastor prepared this six minute video for the youth group's Maundy Thursday meeting. We also used it in the traditional service to highlight the significance of the cross as a crucial turning point in human history. Watch it here!
