Welcome! Choosing a church can be scary. I can remember visiting dozens of churches throughout my life when I was in college and even as part of a ministry team during high school. There are many churches in the world and in our area. What makes Ocean Community Church a church worth choosing? One of our core values here involves safety and balance. We believe that people will come to faith and be involved as they make those choices without being pressured. We try to be sensitive to the past experiences people have had in churches, and respect the choices you make about how involved you want to be. We are a thinking church that welcomes questions and conversation about difficult faith questions. We are a “centered-set”, generous orthodoxy church where worship, fellowship, discipleship, service and mission are central. Most of our Sunday messages focus on how faith will be lived out in everyday life. We invite you to come and journey with us, as we journey together with Jesus Christ! Perhaps God has something wonderful for you here!

MORE about OCC:

Children’s Ministry

Here at OCC we want to provide a place for kids to experience growth and grace. Our goal is for kids to grow in their knowledge of God and His love for them, grow in their understanding of His purpose which includes a special plan for each of them, and grow in character, which will better equip them to handle the challenges they face each day. Kids will have the opportunity to experience grace and will be encouraged to extend God’s grace to others. Our curriculum provides a creative approach for teaching the Bible. Some of the teaching methods include: drama, interactive discovery, storytelling, interviews, games and songs. Our children’s ministry is held during our first service beginning at 9:00am in the sanctuary with worship and a children’s message, followed by a breakout into age-appropriate discussion groups.

Family Promise Host Site

About five times a year, for one week at a time, host congregations provide hospitality, overnight lodging, and meals (breakfast, a bag lunch and dinner). Hosting rotates among congregations, which provide lodging for three to five families (up to 14 individuals) from 6pm to 7am the next morning.

Food Pantry

Our food pantry is part of the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean County providing supplemental and emergency food to those in need. The pantry is open every Wednesday from 11:00am until 1:00pm serving between 60-85 families each week. We also distribute over 100 holiday food baskets each Thanksgiving and Christmas and provide gifts to children up to age 12 through our deacon’s Angel Tree project.

Interfaith Health & Support Services of Ocean County

We are a participating congregation of IHSS with members serving as volunteers as well as board members. This program unites the spirit of many faith congregations. Volunteers from participating congregations are trained men, women, young adults and youth who give non-medical support, share their personal gifts and provide services that are matched to a neighbor's need.

Study and fellowship opportunities

A variety of small groups exist within Ocean Community Church, allowing Christian growth and social opportunities to those who attend. Bible Study groups meet on Monday evenings and Thursday mornings, and craft/card making groups meet on Thursday morning. Men are invited out the third Thursday of each month at 6:30pm to share in preparation of dinner and join in prayer and fellowship. Other teams work on special event planning.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is another part of our children’s ministry and outreach where we host between 60-80 local children from ages 4 (and potty trained) up to entering 6th grade for one week in the summer. Children join us each evening from 6:00-8:00pm where their learning is extended through stations, including, music, discovery, storytelling and more.

World Renew: Disaster Response Services Host Site

Super-storm Sandy ravaged the east coast in October 2012, leaving years of work to be done. For over 3 years, we hosted disaster relief groups in support of their efforts to rebuild our community. In September 2013, World Renew: Disaster Relief Services opened a reconstruction site here at OCC where volunteers slept and ate while they continued rebuilding homes in Ocean and Atlantic Counties.

Youth Group

Youth in grades 3-6th meet each week on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00-5:30pm for fellowship, games, spiritual growth and fun while our middle school-high school youth meet every Friday night from 7:00-8:30pm for fellowship, games and activities. Many events are planned throughout the year including game and movie nights, weekend retreats to Camp Keswick, bbq’s, fire pit s’mores roasting, local outings and lock-ins where youth stay the night here at the church and participate in fun planned events.
