Easter Sunday: April 24

Easter Sunrise service 6am 6th Street, Ship Bottom: We gather for a brief service remembering the way Jesus rose from the tomb early in the morning on the first day of the week. This is the traditional reason that we worship on Sunday, which is the first day of the week, rather than Saturday, the traditional sabbath day. Each Sunday gathering for worship is a remembrance of the resurrection of Jesus! Christ is risen, he is risen indeed!

Regular services Easter Sunday at 9am and 11am. We'll wrap up our study of the seven deadly sins by thinking about how God delights in renewing and recreating a lost and broken world.

notes for sunday, april 17

Palm Sunday - last Sunday to order Easter flowers: This Sunday is Palm Sunday, a tradition of remembering Jesus' last week before the cross. We'll watch a video about a children's view retelling of the entrance into Jerusalem riding a donkey. This is also the week we say goodbye to Dave and Monica Kirk as they prepare to move to San Francisco. The coffee hour between services will be in honor of their years of service, especially in music ministry (praise band and Imagine events, Walk Worthy musical, preaching, consistory service...). Come and join in wishing them godspeed.

Maundy Thursday tenebrae service 7pm: This is a traditional service remembering the events leading from the last supper to the crucifixion. It is built around Scripture readings, hymns and short meditations on the passages. We leave this service in silence and darkness, appropriate for thinking about the sadness of the disciples as Jesus dies and is buried. The Lord's Supper is celebrated by intinction (people come forward and dip the bread in the cup). Those who would like to receive communion seated will be served.

Note - No Good Friday Community Service: In past years we have hosted a radio broadcast community service. Participation has gradually declined, and we will take a year off this year. WYRS will continue to broadcast special Good Friday content.

Regular services Easter Sunday at 9am and 11am. We'll wrap up our study of the seven deadly sins by thinking about how God delights in renewing and recreating a lost and broken world.

Communion will be held May 8th: Pastor Phil will be away the week after Easter; Rev. Bob Bremer will lead worship on May 1. We will celebrate communion on May 8.

Tree of Life reactivated in support of General Fund

In 1996 the Tree of Life was begun here at OCC as a way for people to memorialize a loved one through a gift in support of our mortgage reduction. At the time, we raised $100,000, and were able to pay down mortgages to a level we could sustain. Those mortgages were retired in 2000, and we moved towards our new building. This year, through your giving and the generosity of the Boye Foundation gifts, we were able to retire the mortgage from the new building, and we are now mortgage free. Consistory has repurposed the Tree of Life to support our general fund as we seek to move towards future staffing. While the current economic climate doesn't allow us to move ahead as quickly as we would like, the base for any future staffing is adequate support for our yearly general fund. We recently had our first contribution to the repurposed tree, and more are in the works. If you would like to consider memorializing a loved one through the Tree of Life, contact George Holman or Lynne Lasko. At the point where our general fund giving is adequate to support additional staffing, we will move ahead in the areas of youth/children, music and visitation. Thanks for your part in this over the years, and in the years to come!

March 27 a special single service Sunday for us

This coming Sunday, March 27, will see us hosting the youth group from Colts Neck Reformed Church as they lead us in worship through music and drama. WE WILL HAVE A SINGLE SERVICE STARTING AT 9:30AM. We encourage people to come and invite your friends. Remember that we are able to park in the post office lot, and if you can car pool on this Sunday, that will leave the spots closer to the doors for visitors and those who have difficulty walking. The service will open with a devotional time of bell ringing and scripture. Following prayer and the offering, the youth will present a musical skit focused on trusting God in everything. Don't miss this special opportunity.
